SIL in partnership with Oracle organised the third edition of the eGov Conference on the 7th and 8th October 2015 at Maritim Resort & Spa, on the theme “Smart Gov”.
The eGov Conference 2015 has explored the latest trends and technological tools used internationally to shape and enable the "Smart Governements" – that is, structures and functions of government that are more efficient and productive based on the use of digital technology.
Mr Dev Phokeer, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation, officially opened the event.
This two-day workshop provided an insight on the trends that have shaped ‘Smart Governments’ around the world and explored the technologies used to develop citizen-centric government systems. This 3rd edition of the eGov Conference was attended by officers, IT managers and project managers of ministries, government departments, parastatal organisations and local government, as well as by delegates from Uganda.
Experts from SIL and from Oracle’s regional offices, together with domain experts from different organisations discussed on innovative solutions to challenges faced by governments. Main themes consisted of smarts cities and technoparks, the transformation of government through digital technologies and the use of social media, digital technologies in education, and increase in operational efficiency in the health sector.
“As a major contributor to the Mauritian ICT sector in providing integrated IT solution and software, SIL wants to participate in national ambition to enable the development of a smart government. The eGov conference allows all stakeholders to present their visions and challenges on Smart Gov. This event is also a platform for exploring the technologies needed to develop government systems that will help the government in delivering efficient results to citizens”, Kemraz Mohee, General Manager of SIL, said.
