Logging Off with a Grateful Heart – SIL Has Never Been Just a Workplace, but a Family

Last week, we bid farewell to Asha, a colleague whose remarkable journey has been closely intertwined with the history and growth of SIL.

Joining SIL in 1989, when the company was based at the SICOM Building, Asha dedicated more than 36 years to the organisation. Throughout her career, she served in the Corporate Management Office, Registry Department, Administration Department as Lead Administrative Specialist, and most recently in the Managing Director’s Office. Along the way, she witnessed SIL’s transformation, worked with successive Management Teams, and even shared an office with the current Minister of MITCI during his time at SIL. As Asha likes to joke, she has worked with “future VIPs and leaders” long before they became one!

Reflecting on her journey, Asha shared:

“There were challenges as well as smooth sailing periods. One of my greatest challenges was leading the Administration Department while supporting the Office of the Managing Director at the same time. It has been a privilege to work alongside my wonderful Administration Team, and I truly appreciated the close collaboration with the HR Department.

My heartfelt thanks goes to everyone who crossed my path and contributed to making my years at SIL so memorable. My sincere thanks also goes to Dr. Parmesh Pallanee for the trust and confidence he placed in me to support and manage his office.”

As Asha embarks on a new chapter, we thank her for her years of dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment.

At the Girls in ICT session held at MGSS, Varsha Deelah, Senior Technology Consultant – Cybersecurity at SIL, shared an empowering message with young girls: the future of technology is theirs to shape.

Through her presentation, she highlighted how ICT is transforming industries such as healthcare, education, and public services, while also exploring emerging trends including Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, and the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

She shed light on the diverse career paths available in ICT, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and the development of both technical and soft skills to succeed in this dynamic field.

At the heart of her message was inclusion and empowerment, reminding students that: “There is no single path in ICT, but there is space for everyone.”

Encouraging the next generation to dream big and embrace innovation, she concluded with a powerful reminder: “Every girl has the potential to build an inspiring career in ICT. Start small, keep learning, and believe in yourself. Your ideas matter, your creativity matters, and with determination, your future in technology can be greater than you ever imagined.”

Building Strategic Alliances: Advancing Smart Storage & Distribution

As part of his ongoing visit to India, our Managing Director, Mr. Parmesh Pallanee, held high-level engagements with key stakeholders from the Department of Food and Public Distribution of India and the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) in New Delhi, accompanied by the Chief Business Officer of SILDIA, Mr. Anuj Vohra.

These discussions mark an important step towards supporting key sectors in Mauritius such as agriculture, commerce, and logistics through the automation of storage and distribution systems.

The collaboration seeks to leverage expertise in modern warehousing and digital solutions to enhance efficiency, transparency, and operational performance across the supply chain ecosystem.

During the visit, Mr. Pallanee met with Ms. Anita Karn, Additional Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution of India, further strengthening institutional ties and exploring avenues for cooperation.

SIL ICT Roadshow Concludes in Zambia

SIL’s participation in the ICT Roadshow has successfully been concluded in Zambia.

Our Managing Director, Mr. Parmesh Pallanee, held a fruitful meeting with the Zambian Minister of Science and Technology, where key discussions focused on potential collaborations and emerging opportunities.

It was also an honour to visit Infratel Corporation and Zamtel, two government-owned operators and solution providers. These engagements enabled meaningful conversations around collaboration, innovation, and the strengthening of cross-border ICT services to drive growth across industries in both Zambia and Mauritius.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Economic Development Board – Mauritius and its counterparts in Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia for their warm welcome and for enabling this valuable opportunity to happen.

This marks another important step in strengthening SIL’s footprint and fostering strategic regional partnerships across the African continent.
