SILNAM participates in Oracle Project Management Technology Solutions event in Windhoek

SILNAM in association with Oracle Primavera hosted an event on strategic dialogue for Public Infrastructure Project Management on 22 July 2016 at Hilton Hotel in Windhoek, Namibia.

The event aimed at exploring the available project management technology platforms as enablers to achieve predictable outcomes in infrastructure development projects. Mr. C. Visagie, Head of Corporate Affairs from the Ministry of Works and Transport officially opened the event.

Infrastructure development contributes to economic growth, job creation and building a better life for all citizens, the Public sector infrastructure development projects are not without their challenges for both project owner and contractor organizations. Therefore, delivering the best quality infrastructure at the lowest price while ensuring timely delivery and adequate risk management is a challenge in all regions of the world.  As such, project managers are turning to information technology as a key enabler for the successful delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects.

In the opening note, Mr. Willem Goeimann, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport of Namibia discussed about the importance of Enterprise Project Management for Infrastructure Projects in Namibia.

“The South African Government adopted a National Infrastructure Plan in 2012 that intends to transform the economic landscape while simultaneously creating significant numbers of new jobs, and to strengthen the delivery of basic services. The plan also supports the integration of African economies. We look at how does the South African Government coordinate and integrate infrastructure projects into a coherent and holistic long term plan and infrastructure pipeline”,Mr. Tumi Kgomo (Chief Director – Projects at Department of Public Enterprises of the South African Government) said. He was speaking on the topic: “Coordinate National Development Planning, Mobilize and prudently manage available Financial and Economic Resources”.

Experts from Oracle’s regional offices elaborated on the topics covered. The theme’s key address, about the role of technology in infrastructure delivery success was presented by Mr. Guy Barlow, Director of Industry Strategy – Oracle Construction and Engineering Global Business Unit. To close the half-day session, Mr. Eben van Wyk, Senior Solution Sales Consultant – Oracle Construction and Engineering Global Business Unit, presented the Oracle Primavera Solution Overview.
